LESS WASTE, MORE RESOURCE

A new economic model

The idea of enhancing the by-products of the olive oil industry follows an even more wide-ranging vision, which responds to the need of our time to radically reconsider the entire economic model we find ourselves in: the linear economy that starts from the certainty that in any production process a part of it becomes scrap or waste.

A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

Climate change is pushing us towards a responsible transformation of the type of economy we are part of, and this is where the circular economy comes into play

It is no longer sustainable to consider processing residues as waste, rather, we have a duty to transform them into resources to be reinvested and reintegrated into the system. In the oil industry and in particular in classic three-phase mills, the biggest problem is linked to vegetation water, which in large quantities risks destroying the ecosystems into which it is poured if not treated properly.

With the two-phase system, alternatively, the 'sludge' that results from the separation of the oil is further processed in order to obtain two by-products: pits and pomace. The pits are used to fuel biomass boilers, and compared to pellets or wood chips, are richer in terms of calorific value and are combustion clean - as they do not release resin. We entrust the pomace to our supply chain partners who, through an 'anaerobic digestion' process, transform it into biogas to create electricity and heat.
